since the founding of the kanaris brand i've decided i want to focus more on the visual aspect of my art. this means i am making an effort to create music videos, covers, illustrations and other things where i usually wouldn't. i hope to one day get to a point where i can create completely solo pieces of multimedia art. for now i'm commissioning people to fill in the skill gaps i have while i work on myself. i would post images like a portfolio here but i have nothing i'm very proud of to show off yet.

since i've only recently started taking this section of my art more seriousley. i have a pretty small list of inspirations for everything since i've never actually consumed much visual art.

i post most of my video art on youtube. and i post the rest such as illustrations and graffiti on twitter.

i'm always down to collaborate or recieve commissions! fastest way to contact me is either on twitter or kai@kanaris.net

video art

for my music videos i use a software called touch designer by derivative. it has a nice simple node based coding approach for vdj stuff. unfortunately as of 2025 the animation aspect of the software is pretty lackluster and it is incredibly unaffordable if you want to use it for commerical purposes (btw its completely free to download for personal use). because of this, i am experimenting with a new free and open source software called TiXL. there is actually animation features which are not clunky!! and not to mention it is wayy more capable than touch designer is.. and its FREE??? right now i'm just wrapping my head around the app and experimenting behind the scenes since it's kind of overwhelming.

currently my inspirations are:

illustrations

i really want to draw but it is incredibly difficult. right now i'm struggling with forming a habit since nothing i draw is rewarding. i think i would have such an easier time if i was still in school where distracting myself by drawing is more rewarding than actually drawing something good. i can't seem to focus on this stuff very well at home since i have way too many things to give me better engagement like games, videos, music and friends. i still try my best.. but at a snails pace :[ i'll get to a point where i'm happy if i never stop trying.

i use a variety of tools like ball point pens, pencils, fine markers and big markers. i also try drawing on digital using an xp pen artist 13 pro tablet. right now i'm just experienting and trying to figure out whats more fun. so far i just keep switching between hardware and software.

currently my inspirations are:

graphic design

i've been doing graphic design about as long as i've been making music since i've been making my own cover arts for a lot of my music. and i've been designing logos, branding and such for myself. i even took a graphic design course at school but i failed it lmfao..

i use GIMP and a plugin library called G'MIC for my graphic art. sometimes i use inkscape for vector stuff. i'm hoping to try out photoshop and illustrator by adobe since i've seen some really cool things made with that software but it's incredibly unaffordable and i feel like pirating just helps them form a monopoly anyways. unfortunately nobody has exceeeded their level of image manipulation so i might try using it anyways at some point down the line.

i haven't got much of an asset library since everything is mostly generative but i sommetimes use pics from my phone and also circuit diagrams of various synths and hardware.

currently my inspirations are:

other

i occasionally post other art like graffiti. i take the same inspiration as i do for graphic design. very very new into this and i want to do more when i can find the energy for it!

character design

so far theres only two characters behind the brand, maybe this might change in the future, perhaps not. i have no interest in adding any more at the moment but i'm completely open to the idea. here's some more information about them if you're interested!

i have a fursuit in the works which i'll post more about here when it's done

Kai Artikkas

TL;DR:

  • Cybernetic dragon
  • 7ft
  • Half machine
  • Kind, compassionate, generous

Kai is a furred dragon-like creature that comes from a futuristic world where music runs the world, everything creates sound, such as everyday like doors or cars to commercial industrial equipment. Sound is everywhere and everything creates a musical ensemble. He is kind and laidback has a positive attidute to most things, he likes to meditate or play games or tinker around with stuff in his free time. He is a nomad exploring the world for more beautiful sights and sounds. His previous job was to be part of a spaceship salvage team, to reclaim valuable components from ships in orbit around the planet. His favorite food is noodles and he can't taste spicyness.

Unix

TL;DR:

  • Synth robot doggo
  • Pretty stupid and erratic

Unix is the companion to Kai built from a bunch of random spacetech technology during his time at his previous job. The original purpose of this drone was to tug light loose scrap from space but now it serves as a musical companion for Kai along his adventures. It is very lightweight and fast. Unix is like an erratic dog with lots of emotion and character but also pretty dumb. Kai spends a good portion of his time just fixing unix because of short circuits or physical damage. Kai likes unix's company despite it being such a troublemaker and breaking so often.
